Ziggy Stardust Suit (Pattern)

Ziggy Stardust Suit Pattern

This was originally created for David and Mick Rock’s Ziggy Stardust Genesis limited edition book box cover. David liked it so much he asked if he could use the pattern to have a replica of the original trousers and jacket made (his original two-piece suit had been lost during the early part of the first Ziggy tour in 1972. “Fans literally ripped it off me,” David told me in 1994). I adjusted the design slightly to create a larger colourway for David’s US fabric manufacturer (the replica suit was made in the US, overseen by Jimmy King).

NB The only thing that is missing is the Clockwork Orange faux-diamond studded cod piece, which can be detected in some early live Ziggy concert stills.

And a little more trivia… in the late 70s I was informed by an enterprising lady that she had made a teapot cosy out of some of the original torn off fabric. Ironically, David was actually more partial to coffee!
